Fat-soluble vitamins accumulate in body fat and can reach toxic levels. Excessive vitamin A causes liver damage and birth defects; excess vitamin D causes hypercalcemia; excess vitamin E increases bleeding risk. Unlike water-soluble vitamins, the body cannot easily eliminate excess fat-soluble vitamins.
