High fructose corn syrup is uniquely harmful compared to other sugars and should be avoided at all costs.
While excessive consumption of any sugar is unhealthy, HFCS is metabolically very similar to table sugar (sucrose) and honey, both of which are about 50% fructose. The health problems associated with HFCS primarily stem from overconsumption of sweetened products in general, not unique properties of HFCS itself. The evidence for HFCS being worse than other sugars is limited.
