Thomas Edison invented the electric light bulb.
Many inventors contributed to the light bulb's development, including Humphry Davy, Warren de la Rue, Joseph Swan, and others who created working incandescent bulbs before Edison. Edison's 1879 contribution was creating a practical, long-lasting bulb and the electrical system to power it. He improved upon existing designs rather than inventing the concept.
